SWITCHES AND SWITCH COMMANDS:
In a switch, frame forwarding is handled by specialized hardware
called ASIC (Application Specific Integrated Circuit). ASIC
technology allows a silicon chip to be programmed to perform
specific functions much faster than that of a chip programmed by
software.
Switch functions:

2. Switch startup- MAC address table is empty.
3. Switch floods incoming packets on all ports until MAC addresses
are learned.
4. Once a node transmits on the wire, the transmitter’s MAC address
is learned and added to the table for that switch port.
5. A MAC table entry is cached; if a new frame does not refresh it
within a time limit, the entry is discarded.
6. [FORWARDING AND FILTERING]
7. Once a MAC address is learned for a port, packets received will
only be sent to that port as long as the MAC table entry for that
